In WASTED SKIN the dancers express the effect of physical proximity and distance on feeling and behavior.
It is a quest for social and physical ease and a struggle to overcome our recently formed inhibitions. We witness a scene with zones of harsh lighting and sheltering
darkness. The dancers attempt to cross over the distance and alienation between them with ritualistic movement sequences. Instinctively, they are drawn towards the warmth of the others’
skin. They dance to survive their isolation, to warm up to the others but at anytime suddenly, the security of the group can turn around and become a threat.
WASTED SKIN celebrates the beauty and power of body language. It is put together with contrasting parts that sometimes end abruptly and start off again in a different shape. The choreography emphasizes longing and loneliness with a variable mix of hot and cold – soft, as if melting and then switching to mechanical movement. It enables the audience to be engaged and experience this journey of emotions with the dancers.
2021- Ivgi&Greben is the new dance-company based in Friesland/ Fryslân (NL)
As choreographers Uri Ivgi and Johan Greben have been creating dance both nationally and internationally, since 2003. Each time they collaborated with different dancers in different cities. Everywhere they worked their quality was recognized and awarded more than once, for example in Moscow, they received the Golden Mask Award for Best Choreographer in Ballet/Contemporary Dance. After roaming the globe for so long, for them the time came to have their whole artistic oeuvre, their commitment and their international experience land in one place: their own company in the city of Leeuwarden in the North of the Netherlands.
With WASTED SKIN Uri Ivgi and Johan Greben now begin a new phase in their development as artists. Having their own company allows them to grow together with their dancers and take the audience with them on a long term artistic journey. As a new Frisian company based in Leeuwarden, Ivgi&Greben cie. will be able to establish its own position internationally and in the Dutch dance field.
